On October 17th 2022, Sarthak Foundation hosted the second gender workshop at CSIR-CDRI. Around 150 students participated from various colleges. The Programme was started by introducing Sustainable Development Goal No. 5—Gender Equality. Dr Niti Kumar ,Senior Scientist of CSIR-CDRI, was the guest speaker at the programme. She informed the students about the difference between equity and equality. She discussed gender equality at the workplace and various challenges in front of women for the continuation of their jobs. She discussed the women’s ratio as compared to men in the workforce of the organisation in India.After that, Ms. Shama discussed with the students about gender stereotypes.. She asked the students to write one action or behaviour that represents men’s and women’s behavior.Through this activity, she explained the gender stereotypes in the society. She informed the students that there are four types of gender stereotype i.e., domestic stereotype physical appearance stereotype ,corporate and social stereotype. Ms. Shama discussed each stereotype in detail with the students by giving appropriate examples and conducted activities. Then the 2nd activity was organised with one handout distributed to students . 11 groups of students were selected in each group, and the rest of the students acted as the audience. Selected students were asked to perform the role play according to the character of interviewer and candidate. One link was shared with the rest of the students to rate the candidate on the basis of their answers . Through this activity, students were able to understand corporate stereotype. The 3rd activity was organised again one handout given to each student. Students were asked to read the handout. The handout includes the various ads for the groom and bride . Students were urged to read the handout to create an ad for matrimony, one for the groom and one for the bride, Through this activity, students were able to understand physical experience stereotype in the society.Programme was ended with vote of thanks to students and lunch boxes were distributed among the students.
