Friendly Cricket Match for Road Safety Awareness
As a part of creating awareness on road safety through engaging activities, the Road Safety
Club of GIHSM under the aegis of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRT&H)
organized a friendly cricket match between the Transport Department and Jal Nigam
Department of Uttar Pradesh. The objective was to promote road safety messages in a fun way.
The match was organized on 10th March, 2024 at GGI Ground from 10:00 am.
Principal Dr. Santosh Pandey welcomed both the teams along with their skippers and thanked
both teams for healthy participation in the promotion of road safety awareness programme. The
Transport Department XI was led by Mr. Sanjay while Mr. Shivam leads his team Jal Nigam
XI. The match started with the Jal Nigam Department XI winning the toss and electing to bat
first. Their openers got off to a steady start for the first wicket partnership. Jal Nigam bowlers
struck at regular intervals not allowing big partnerships. Transport Department managed to
score 115 runs in 20 overs.
Chasing 116 for victory, the Transport Department XI openers went on the attack from the start.
Scoring at a brisk pace. The middle order continued the momentum despite losing a few
wickets. Transport Department XI achieved the target with 3 wickets in hand.
It was good to see that both teams sported jerseys with road safety messages and slogans such
as “सड़क सुरƗा, जीवन रƗा”. There were stalls promoting road safety through banners and
pamphlets.
The match was played in a spirit of camaraderie, sportsmanship and generating road safety
awareness through an entertaining sports event. The Road Safety Club and Dr. Santosh Pandey,
Principal GIHS thanked all participants, officials and spectators for making the event a success.
